1/1/2024 0 Comments Duct tape or duck tape![]() Duct tape is an excellent tool for a variety of applications. The Duck Tape® brand was born from two factors: the original fabric of the tape and the fact that it was water-resistant. Duck Tape® was invented by Jack Kahl in 1980, and it is now one of the most popular brands of duct tape on the market. Duct tape can be used in NASA to seal heating ducts as well.ĭuct tape has always been useful, but it has recently gained popularity as a brand name. The term “ duck tape” was coined during World War II by soldiers to describe the way liquids roll off the back of a duck. When the pressure is high, the bond is more secure, and when it is smooth, smooth, or hard, it is more secure. Duct tape, like glue, has a pressure-sensitive adhesive that bonds to surfaces. The proposal was detailed in a letter written to President Franklin Roosevelt. To protect their welfare, she proposed making a type of tape that was strong and water-resistant. Vesta Stoudt was a factory worker and mother of two Navy sons when she died. The first known use of the duct tape was during the Second World War, when it was used to seal ammunition cases and prevent them from leaking. Who Invented The Duct Tape? Credit: The duct tape was invented in the 1940s by perforated adhesive tape manufacturers. As a result, the original Duct tape came in only army green. In order to keep moisture out of ammunition cases, the military required waterproof tape. Duct tape is effective at any location.ĭuring World War II, Johnson & Johnson’s Permacel division developed the first commercial use of duct tape. Vesta Stoudt, an Illinois woman, created the iconic tape as a way to save soldiers during World War II.Īndy Weir’s excellent science fiction novel, “The Martian,” shows how astronaut Mark Watney uses duct tape several times to save his life on Mars. Tape is used in everyday activities on Earth in the same way that it is used in space, to keep items from floating away in the microgravity environment. Duct tape should never be used to seal ducts, according to researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Environmental Energy Division.ĭuct tape and Kapton tape are two of the most commonly used adhesives for NASA orbital missions. To keep moisture out of ammunition cases, the military required waterproof tape. During WWII, Johnson’s Permacel division invented Duct Tape as a military tool. On December 11, 1972, astronauts Gene Cernan and Jack Schmitt performed the first tape repair. Duct tape is used in NASA projects to repair broken windows, make temporary bandages, and do other things. Vesta Stoudt invented the first case of duct tape during World War II. So next time you reach for a roll of duct tape, remember, you have NASA to thank for it! Duct tape proved to be an invaluable tool for the space program and has since become a staple in households all over the world. After trying out various options, they finally settled on duct tape. They needed a strong adhesive that could withstand extreme temperatures and conditions. In the early days of the space program, NASA engineers were looking for a way to keep the astronauts’ space suits together. But like everything else, duct tape has a history, and that history begins with NASA. It’s just always been there, reliable and trustworthy. Duct tape is one of those inventions that you use every day but never think about where it came from. ![]() Eventually, a Twitter Moments was created about Evil Kermit, solidifying its place in the meme establishment. ![]() And Instagrammer meme.w0rld even Photoshopped the image into Miss Piggy – Kermit’s on-off love – to get in on the action. Inner me: Kick it under the fridge /VXSCX4cxiL- Kermit November 21, 2016 Many of the best Evil Kermits relate to relationship problems, where the internet often provides comfort in the form of memes. Evil Kermit has jumped off-platform and is finding its way across Instagram and Snapchat too. The wit and creativity of people is one of the best things the internet showcases, especially when we’re drowning in internet woe. Then the dream is for the meme to take on a life of its own, and grow with original additions. Sudarkina doesn’t mind that folks ripped off her original tweet because she recognises that the only means of a meme gaining currency is to be picked up and shared by humour accounts or Facebook profiles with huge followings to reach a wider audience. But it also turns out that she’s pretty awesome, musing to The Verge: “How’d I even think of a tweet so genius? Am I Einstein? No, I am prettier.” It turns out Anya Sudarkina is a 19-year-old student who is relaxed about her new meme fame, although rather poignantly, she said she didn’t think Evil Kermit would take off because she has “ really low meme confidence”.
