1/1/2024 0 Comments Duct tape or duck tape![]() Duct tape is an excellent tool for a variety of applications. The Duck Tape® brand was born from two factors: the original fabric of the tape and the fact that it was water-resistant. Duck Tape® was invented by Jack Kahl in 1980, and it is now one of the most popular brands of duct tape on the market. Duct tape can be used in NASA to seal heating ducts as well.ĭuct tape has always been useful, but it has recently gained popularity as a brand name. The term “ duck tape” was coined during World War II by soldiers to describe the way liquids roll off the back of a duck. When the pressure is high, the bond is more secure, and when it is smooth, smooth, or hard, it is more secure. Duct tape, like glue, has a pressure-sensitive adhesive that bonds to surfaces. The proposal was detailed in a letter written to President Franklin Roosevelt. To protect their welfare, she proposed making a type of tape that was strong and water-resistant. Vesta Stoudt was a factory worker and mother of two Navy sons when she died. The first known use of the duct tape was during the Second World War, when it was used to seal ammunition cases and prevent them from leaking. Who Invented The Duct Tape? Credit: The duct tape was invented in the 1940s by perforated adhesive tape manufacturers. As a result, the original Duct tape came in only army green. In order to keep moisture out of ammunition cases, the military required waterproof tape. Duct tape is effective at any location.ĭuring World War II, Johnson & Johnson’s Permacel division developed the first commercial use of duct tape. Vesta Stoudt, an Illinois woman, created the iconic tape as a way to save soldiers during World War II.Īndy Weir’s excellent science fiction novel, “The Martian,” shows how astronaut Mark Watney uses duct tape several times to save his life on Mars. Tape is used in everyday activities on Earth in the same way that it is used in space, to keep items from floating away in the microgravity environment. Duct tape should never be used to seal ducts, according to researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Environmental Energy Division.ĭuct tape and Kapton tape are two of the most commonly used adhesives for NASA orbital missions. To keep moisture out of ammunition cases, the military required waterproof tape. During WWII, Johnson’s Permacel division invented Duct Tape as a military tool. On December 11, 1972, astronauts Gene Cernan and Jack Schmitt performed the first tape repair. Duct tape is used in NASA projects to repair broken windows, make temporary bandages, and do other things. Vesta Stoudt invented the first case of duct tape during World War II. So next time you reach for a roll of duct tape, remember, you have NASA to thank for it! Duct tape proved to be an invaluable tool for the space program and has since become a staple in households all over the world. After trying out various options, they finally settled on duct tape. They needed a strong adhesive that could withstand extreme temperatures and conditions. In the early days of the space program, NASA engineers were looking for a way to keep the astronauts’ space suits together. But like everything else, duct tape has a history, and that history begins with NASA. It’s just always been there, reliable and trustworthy. Duct tape is one of those inventions that you use every day but never think about where it came from. ![]() Eventually, a Twitter Moments was created about Evil Kermit, solidifying its place in the meme establishment. ![]() And Instagrammer meme.w0rld even Photoshopped the image into Miss Piggy – Kermit’s on-off love – to get in on the action. However, my party was already quite powerful by the time I reached a couple of them (one notable mace in Durgan's Battery) which made me decide to save trialing out a couple of them for another play-through. There are some interestingly novel quest requirements to upgrade and use some of these weapons. There are some noteworthy quests of which the soul-bound weapons are certainly an interesting new addition. Twice now I've created a Rogue in the Gilded Vale inn and they've both become integral to beating the game. I'm undecided on the class but I'll most likely go Rogue and House Doemenal due to loving how well they work in the game. I will aim to do this for my third character for the Path of the Damned run. In hindsight, I probably would have preferred to arrive in Stalwart at an earlier level to gain access to the extra companions and other quest content sooner. Indeed, progress was nice and slow especially since I elected to explore Longwatch Falls and do all of the quests here first (which was generally harder than the Ogre Cave and associated content to the West.) I elected not to make it harder and this decision by no means trivialized encounters. I started the content at around level 9-10 which it considered to be "high". Obsidian did well to offer the player the option to "raise the difficulty" when first arriving in Stalwart the hub for the White March. Many times it evoked my memories of Icewind Dale, particularly Heart of Winter in its central, small village location. This content is aesthetically very appealing, especially the winter-laden environments and the environmental audio. Wore Rundl's Finery and used Cgadob's Hazel (Wand).Ĭhosen Faction: The Dozen (Was hoping for more expeditions/side-quest content) Spell faves: Malignant Cloud (raw damage! super-sub version of Cloudkill) Ninagauth's Freezing Pillar, Necrotic Lance (killed Thaos with it!) PC Wizard (Slow starter, but became highest damage dealer) (107959) I can only imagine how powerful she would have been before they nerfed Ciphers. Grieving Mother (I especially came to like "Silent Scream", "Amplified Wave" and "Mind Lance") Used Stormcaller (second upgrade only) Wore Wayfarer's Hide. Hiravias (Loud and abrasive, yet his moments of humour and arsenal of spells made him a very valuable member.) Moonwell, Stag horn, Sunlance, Firebug, Wall of thorns were favorites.) Used Cladhilath (spear) + Persistence (bow) + Blaid Golan (Armor) I liked her exhortation to support the rogue which proved a winning combo.) Used The Grey Sleeper (Fully upgraded) + wore Arges AdraĮldric Lockpick (Gilded Vale Black Hound Inn Rogue created at level 2 - the melee powerhouse of the game) Used Oidhreacht (stiletto) + Drawn In Spring (Dagger) Vengiatta Rugia (armor)ĭurance (So reliable and pivotal as the main pillar of defense) Still, she served the tank role well given I'd already used Eder so much previously. Pallegina (Didn't really warm to her haughty foppishness nor found her quest-line terribly interesting. Most Kills: Eldric (Rogue) 681 and Most Crits (1818) The PoE notepad came in handy and so I'll liberally include some of my notes for the fun of this report: Skim or skip at your leisure!įinished in: (118 hours) (86 first time without White March) I like to plan and map out my ideal party member selections from a very early stage (to frame it around my class choice) and when I finally achieve the group I want, I generally adhere to it and make it work. Having Hiravias and Grieving Mother in the party for most of the game helped achieve this. If any particular approach becomes tedious, I simply change my strategy to mix it up and look for other ways to breakup any kind of tactical monotony. Micro-management doesn't bother me in the slightest and never has. Playing style wise, I never used the AI scripts as I enjoy the moment to moment changes in a battle and managing those myself. ![]() I did experience one or two glitches (animation sprites going wonky on the fast mode) but otherwise had a bug-free time. This was due to various factors more planning being required and also for the greater spell-casting variety that my selected party had to choose from. I've generally had a swell time overall and enjoyed the combat much more. This time I played with the 2.01 update and on the hard difficulty, with the White March part 1 installed. First week of my third term break is over and happily I've just come to the conclusion of my second play-through of Pillars of Eternity. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Outlast definition![]() You can check out the latest trailer above, which sheds light on some of the gameplay that players can expect to see once the game goes live later this year. Since its initial announcement, Red Barrels has published three trailers for The Outlast Trials: the teaser trailer the gameplay trailer and the open beta trailer, which was served up at Gamescom 2022. Unfortunately, though, a concrete date hasn't been provided. According to Red Barrels, The Outlast Trials will be releasing at some point in 2022. At present, only 40 people are working on the project. And now, The Outlast Trials stands in line as one of Red Barrels' original concepts, and one that will learn to find ground in the multiplayer community. Initially coined as a “TV series,” Red Barrels eventually made way for what would become a four-player survival horror game. Red Barrels first brought The Outlast Trials to the table back in 2019, a time during which the developer teased the idea of making Outlast 3. Instead of following up with the third game, though, the team went on to experiment with a new spin-off idea, which eventually went on to lay the foundations for The Outlast Trials. The only major difference here is that, well, it isn't up to the one of you to garner results. Like before, players will have to foster a stealthy approach if they are to complete various tasks and sink deeper into the rabbit hole, so to speak. Of course, the fight or flight mechanics are still alive and kicking, as are the deadly monsters and atmospheric settings. An example here would be skill trees, class perks, and customizable characters, all of which will be playing key parts. It will, however, be nothing quite like the first two games, and will feature far more interactive features that accommodate a much wider audience. This isn't to say that players can't run it solo, though, as Red Barrels confirmed prior to the open beta. The open beta of The Outlast Trials indicated that, unlike the first two games, the experience will be more team-based. At this point, though, we almost welcome it. But if we're going by Red Barrels' questionable history, then it's sure to be a little twisted. As for what lurks beyond the other side is anybody's guess. Set during the Cold War, The Outlast Trials will bring volunteers from all walks of life to engage in its sinister games, all of which will bring unique and time-sensitive trials and tribulations. To test the boundaries of such controversial methods, volunteers must embark on terrifying journeys through a monster-infested labyrinth. Instead, players are invited to a horrifying facility that's fostered by Murkoff Corporation, a company that deals in advanced brainwashing and mind control. The Outlast Trials serves as a prequel to the first two entries, but has no definitive connection to either tale set around Mount Massive Asylum, or the Coconino County. While Outlast and Outlast II prioritized single-player campaigns with various scavenging and stealth elements, The Outlast Trials will instead opt for a team-based survival experience, in which up to four players must complete a variety of death defying tasks in order to progress further into an underground labyrinth that facilitates a deeply disturbing brainwashing technique. Unlike its two previous chapters, the next leg of the journey will be predominantly multiplayer-based, and will once again be developed by Red Barrels, a Canadian studio that lit the fuse for the series back in 2013. The Outlast Trials is an upcoming survival horror game for PC and PlayStation. But what do we know about it? Well, here's everything we've scraped together so far, and everything you should know about before punching in that pre-order. And until the team eventually decides to unravel the game in its entirety, we're unfortunately left with only a somewhat incomplete portrait. There's a problem, though, as it appears Red Barrels isn't quite ready to serve up the its hat trick. And now, after the release of its open beta, that intrigue has only flourished into a hunger-a desperation, even, to see all that there is to see in the full release. And yet, our intrigue surrounding Red Barrels' third survival horror game remains just as high. ![]() It will help you the next time these letters, O U T L A S T come up in a word scramble game.2022 has kept a lid on quite the number of hidden gems- The Outlast Trials being just one of them.
